With the idea to develop a new focus in education and research, and to establish state-of-the-art practical training of students in life sciences and biotechnology, Sokhumi State University recently provided newly renovated office and laboratory space and founded the Center for Molecular Diagnostics and Biotechnology (CMDB).

CMDB at Sokhumi State University is a non-commercial academic research center that is not only active in biomedical research and development of novel biomolecular assays, but is aiming at the improvement of Georgian student education in life sciences and biotechnology with a special focus on practical laboratory training in diagnostics of infectious diseases. Noteworthy, it is the first academic laboratory of this type in Georgia.
